Effect Valuation of Passive Exoskeleton for Overhead Work

نویسندگان

چکیده

Overhead work is a main risk factor for upper limb work-related musculoskeletal disorders. In this paper, the research team evaluated effectiveness of passive exoskeleton(PE) with mechanical arm linked to exoskeleton body as an assistive device overhead work. Ten male volunteers participated in by effectuating repetitive lifting tasks using each three payloads: (1kg, 3kg, and 6kg) with/without (PE). The performance evaluation was then conducted analyzing electromyography (EMG) ratings perceived discomfort(RPD) shoulders back muscles obtained from experiments.

The effect of using cervical exoskeleton on the neck and shoulder muscles electrical activity during overhead work

Introduction: The use of exoskeletons as a new ergonomics intervention to reduce musculoskeletal disorders risk factors and increase human performance has emerged in the fourth-generation industrial revolution. The aim of this study was to assess the cervical exoskeleton effect on the neck and shoulder muscles electrical activity. Material and Methods: In this experimental study, 14 male parti...

Design of a Passive Exoskeleton Spine

In this chapter, a series of biomechanics simulations were conducted to reconstruct a specific movement – spine flexion/extension in sagittal plane of a subject. The motion capture was used to collect the kinematics information of the subject. These motions were used to drive a customized musculoskeletal model in OpenSim. Additionally, the muscle actuation forces and joint reactions were comput...

Design of a Passive Upper Limb Exoskeleton for Macaque Monkeys

Integrating an exoskeleton as the external apparatus for a brain–machine interface (BMI) has the advantage of providing multiple contact points to determine body segment postures and allowing control to and feedback from each joint. When using macaques as subjects to study the neural control of movement, an upper limb exoskeleton design with unlikely singularity is required to guarantee safe an...

A Gravity Balancing Passive Exoskeleton for the Human Leg

A gravity balancing lower extremity exoskeleton is a simple mechanical device composed of rigid links, joints and springs, which is adjustable to the geometry and inertia of the leg of a human subject wearing it. This passive exoskeleton does not use any motors or controllers, yet can still unload the human leg joints of the gravity load over the full range of motion of the leg. The underlying ...

A Quasi-Passive Leg Exoskeleton for Load-Carrying Augmentation

A quasi-passive leg exoskeleton is presented for load-carrying augmentation during walking. The exoskeleton has no actuators, only ankle and hip springs and a knee variabledamper. Without a payload, the exoskeleton weighs 11.7 kg and requires only 2 Watts of electrical power during loaded walking. For a 36 kg payload, we demonstrate that the quasi-passive exoskeleton transfers on average 80% of...
